Former Clapham Police Station

Introduction

We started on this site back in February 2015 with a programmed completion date of May 2016 the development consisted of the change of use of the main building, from sui generis use (police station) to residential to create 16 high specification self-contained units together with extensive external alterations. Demolition of 1960s rear wing and erection of 4-storey wing to provide 4 dwellings. Landscaping and provision of refuse and cycle storage enclosures. The existing building element is being constructed to achieve BREEAM ‘very good’ rating, all elements will be built to secure by design high crime area standards and building control approval.

Our Involvement

This project was on a design and build contract we have been involved since the pre-construction phase where we acted as the client's advisors working closely with and co-ordinating the architects and engineers to help put together all the pre-construction information through to completion.

Alterations

The extensive external alterations include new windows and doors being installed existing window openings to be altered and moved and a two-storey extension to the existing stairwell which includes new concrete stairs all to match the existing architecture. Internally there are major structural alterations to the internal load bearing masonry walls and floors including the installation of new steels and concrete floors. We have been responsible for the design and installation of all temporary works.
